What is solitude?
Solitude is the practice of being alone with God, withdrawing from noise and distractions to hear His voice. It is not loneliness, but rather intimate communion. It is in this silence that we find clarity, rest, and direction. Jesus practiced solitude, showing that even the Son of God needed this time with the Father.
"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." - Mark 1:35
Solitude and the heart
Often our hearts become burdened with worries, voices, and opinions. In solitude, the heart learns to rest and trust more in God. It is a space to let Him speak, heal, and align our thoughts.
How to practice
Setting aside time for solitude can be simple, but it requires intention. It could be waking up a little earlier, turning off your phone, or taking a walk in a quiet place.
The essential thing is to create space to listen to God without haste. At first it may seem strange, but over time solitude becomes an indispensable refuge.
Challenge
This week, set aside at least 10 minutes each day just to be with God in silence. No music, no distractions. Just you and Him, observe how these moments impact your heart.
Answer these questions and reflect.
How many times in the last week have I stopped just to be with God in silence?
What prevents me from setting aside time for solitude?
